Hypnotic Suggestion Therapies: Transformational or Ineffective?

For the past few weeks I have been using some Hypno Peripheral Processing (HPP) audio programs based on the recommendation of a friend, who said it helped him to fight his low self-esteem issues, and he was able to got himself back to his normal confident, compassionate mindset.

So, I went ahead and got a few different HPP and NLP audio courses; namely the Re-Formatting Your Unconscious program by Saul Maraney, and Dr. Lloyd Glauberman's HPP audio programs, specifically ones for aiding in procrastination, and resilience. I also purchased a few of the acclaimed "Success Accelerator Subliminal Videos" by Noel Jones.

Each of the audio programs is around 10-30 minutes long and has different binaural beats, subliminal sounds, and relaxing audio that plays in each ear. (The programs must be used with headphones) >> Therapeutic, empowering metaphors are weaved into the playable audio, and apparently this is one of the most powerful learning devices and are the basis for HPP’s effectiveness.

Initially, you will do what I did, and try to listen to both stories at the same time, or try to focus on one story entirely. But, after a few minutes you will find yourself drifting off and not focusing on either story. This is known as dual induction, and it shuts down the logical part of the mind—your inner voice that accompanies the conscious state. The result is a gentle overload and a deep state of relaxation, which is ideal for the tuning into of the positive suggestions conveyed in each program.

In the Success Accelerator videos, positive, empowering subliminal images are shown to you, but only in short split-second flashes, as you watch beautiful images of nature, all of this takes place under the blanket of a warm, soothing musical score. These videos were particularly relaxing, and I enjoyed them very much.

After I researched more into this area, I found that these programs are a type of hypnotic programming where positive suggestions are fed directly to your subconscious, bypassing your conscious mind so that you can gain drive and motivation to get into habits, do things that you need to do, but have fallen out of working them into your daily life.

The images are flashed briefly so that your conscious mind does not but in to the process by saying "Oh, this is dumb.." or "This will never work..." as those types of negative connotations inhibit the progress you want to achieve.

This is also tied-in to "NLP", or Neuro-Linguistic Programming. NLP is said to be effective due to the connection between neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavior patterns that have been learned through each person's experience ("programming").  These aspects of your personality can be aided by these types of audio programs to achieve specific goals in life, depending on your desires.

For me, those desires happened to be overcoming procrastination, and gaining some more jubilation and self-confidence that I used to have in my day-to-day life.

So, I put some of these Hypno-programs that I had gotten (specifically the Re-Formatting Your Unconscious program by NLP coach Saul Maraney, and Procrastinatior No More) onto my MP3 player, and began listening to them when I went to bed. It was a bit strange to me at first, but after a little while I was able to become deeply relaxed and in tune with the positive suggestions that are intricately pieced together within the audio. These were the uplifting subliminal messages being fed to my subconscious mind. After a few days of doing this, I realized that my habits of procrastination where gently being conquered... I found myself doing things that I would normally put off, just to do them! It was like I had more of a subconscious will to do the things I knew that needed to be done, and it came easier.

I could tell that these positive, transformational subliminal suggestions had alot of potential to successfully help your brain implement underlying habits that will bring profound success and confidence.

Before I bought these two programs, I had gone around looking for some info on the techniques and such, and frequently read reports of others who have achieved positive results in their day-to-day lives. I learned that the relaxation aspect of the programs occur within minutes of listening, while within days the emotional and behavioral changes will manifest in subtle and powerful ways.

At first I did not believe this, as I am a skeptic at heart...but, I am quite glad that I found something that is so simple that can help propel the changes I have been working hard to make over the past year or so. So, all in all, I am very glad that I made the leap into these types of subliminal messaging programs, as I would have otherwise totally ignored a very helpful tool in my journey to self-improvement.

These programs can be seen as a type of subliminal messaging, or "Hypnotherapy" and countless people around the world, who are intelligent enough to realize that the potential of these results are indeed easily achievable, are experiencing amazing transformations in how they go about reaching their goals.

Good luck to you on your journeys, and remember to go with the flow!

Until next time..

  4. I've been toying with the idea of hypnotic suggestion therapies, ever since I heard the army was using it to help vets with PTSD. I'm not sure though, I'm still kind of, you know, scared about the possibilities, but I guess the fact that the Army's giving it a try, gives me a little faith. Good post.

  7. Though I don't use hypnosis myself in therapy, I have heard that it has a lot of benefits and really enjoyed reading this article because I feel like I have a much wider knowledge of the subject. Is there a specific issue that hypnotherapy is best at remedying? I may have to give it a shot!

  13. I think that all humans suffer from the human condition and part of that condition is that we live in denial of our true selves. The reason we live this way is that we have been unable to answer the fundamental question that being human brings up. How can we humans possibly be good despite all the appeareances that we are the absolute blights on the planet. How can we be good when we appear to be bad.
I think hypnosis tapes are simply aids to further denying this all important yet unconfrontable issue in all of us
